Susan Cuss – Creating A Special Gift
Last fall I travelled to Australia to visit with my daughter and her family, and during my visit, my granddaughter was going to turn 7. I wanted to create something special for her birthday, and so I embroidered a reverse monogram. Recycled slacks in a soft, dark purple became the fabric for the embroidery, and I backed it with a muslin.
My granddaughter’s name is Jewel, so I drew a large J on the fabric, and then I embroidered around it in some of her favourite colours. I planned to keep the embroidery in a frame so she could hang it in her room. Adding felt to the back of the hoop art, and a ribbon tie, it was all ready for hanging as soon as the gift was unwrapped. Jewel loved it. I think this idea could easily be adapted as a nice wee gift for anyone, using their favourite colours and/or favourite designs.
