Embroidering on a Fabric Collage

Our March Programme was “Layers of Fabric” Techniques for layering and securing different fabrics to create fabric for embroidery.

A Powerpoint presentation on these techniques are here: Fabric Collage for Embroidery

Included in this Powerpoint presentation are a number of projects that have been completed by our members.  Please take a look.

Linda – I used random pieces of fabric and some lace to make up the background and several embroidery stitches to enhance the bunny.  A black glass button is used for the eye and imitation fur used for tail.

Jan – This project was inspired by a sunrise photo my husband took on a canoe trip; the intense sun and trees were beautifully mirrored in the very calm water.    I mounted the fabrics on a cotton base.  The visible fabrics include hand-dyed silk, indigo printed cotton using wax resist, commercial cottons, synthetic organza, a metallic and some fibre for the 3d layer of ‘mist’, including wool locks and Angelina, trapped under a layer of netting.  It captures the feel of the original photograph.

Marilyn B – I chose random but complementing material for the background. I used organza to create subtle leaves that look like they’re drifting down the fabric.
