Thank you to Norah for volunteering to lead a Blackwork Workshop to interested members. Norah hosted the workshop in her home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Norah distributed instructions at our May General Meeting on what to bring for the workshop and the guild provided the fabric required – a choice of 14 ct Aida cloth or 28 ct even weave linen. We were reminded that although this type of stitch is traditionally done with black embroidery thread, any colour embroidery thread can be used.
Along with some information regarding the origins of Blackwork, Norah provided the participants with a copy of Nancy Pederson’s Elizabethan Biscornu pattern and instructions – looks simple. But for us newbies to counted work, it was still a challenge – a challenge that was accepted.
