Creative Hands on Festival
The Embroiderers’ Guild of Peterborough received an invitation from the members of the Artisans Centre to participate in a Creative Hands on Festival event being held on September 20-22, 2019. The Artisans Centre received a $5,000.00 grant from the Federal Government to create an event to get retirees in the Peterborough area (anyone 50+ years) involved in the community, learn social media skills and do teacher training that could be used to teach other retirees.
The Artisans Centre asked guilds in the Peterborough area to take part in a weekend of sharing skills and simple teaching to introduce the retirees to as many different crafts as possible. Participating Guilds would have a display of their work, demonstrate their craft, develop a simple ‘make & take’ item for participants develop a beginner class where more in-depth teaching takes place and, if possible, have ‘raw material’ items for sale.
Deb reported that the event was a big success, a good fund-raiser for the guild and we have met our informal EAC obligation in regard to the September “stitch in public” event. Thank you to Deb who volunteered to head up this endeavor for our guild and the other committee members: Joan, Marilyn, Cynthia, Susan H., Janine, Marie, and Pam whose combined efforts brought this project to fruition.
