Deb - My project idea is to depict, in black and white line drawings, all the places (19) I’ve lived since I was born. Each image will have some little aide-de-memoire of a memory at that place. The drawings will be put on a long roll of linen that will be wound around the bobbin…my own version of the Bayeux Tapestry.

The bobbin was found in a vintage shop, already etched and painted with the woodpecker and flowers, so i snapped it up, even though it’s not very big…only 2 3/4 inches tall. The buildings will be stitched in black thread…likely sewing thread weight…and colour added sparingly in greenery, laundry, clothing, etc.

The old embroideries are what I have left of my mum’s work…just pillowcases. The plan is to back the linen with some of her work. It’ll be cut to fit (gasp!) but better that than left unseen and unappreciated in a drawer for another 5 decades. Whatever is left I’ll use to make Xmas ornaments for her great grandchildren, and then any tinier bits will cover some buttons.
